There will be an info session Wednesday evening, January 9th. Details at bottom of message.
Reasons to Run
1. It’s a great excuse to eat more vegan pizza and vegan donuts. You’ll burn tons of calories while having a blast. How often does someone tell you to “Eat more pasta?” Marathon Matt will tell you that all the time.
2. You want to look better when you do lettuce bikini leafleting at veg outreach events.
3. You’ll love the camaraderie. There is nothing like sweating, groaning, laughing, cheering, limping and jumping for joy with other people to create a great sense of empathy. Your team will have people who have never run a mile and people who run marathons a couple of times a year. It will be a great mix and totally supportive. The best runs you’ll have during training will also be the easiest, because you’ll be running with a person who keeps you going and makes the time fly.
4. Runner’s High. Is. Real. Sure, drugs are fun, but who can afford them? Runner’s high (endorphin burst) is a blast, and totally legal!
5. Special clothes! It’s great fun to go into Fleet Feet running store and get fitted for non-leather running shoes and sports bras. You’ll feel so athletic and serious, and the clothes are all so fancy. Running shirts are also special–they’re made of hi-tech stuff made to do things like “wick.”
6. Runners don’t have to worry about getting diabetes or any of the other health problems that come with being overweight and/or sedentary. Talk about a load off your mind.
7. Runners get OUT. You only get one life, why spend it sitting on the same old couch day after day? With the Team Vegan you’ll run through new neighborhoods, down new beaches, into new parks– a great way to get to know the place you live.
8. You can run everywhere and anywhere. Just throw your shoes into your suitcase and you’re good to go on trips. No expensive club fees, no bikes to lug around, just you.
9. You will sleep better than you ever have.
10. If you have a dog, you HAVE to run! You and your dog will both be so much happier. He’ll be better-behaved (all dogs are when they have enough exercise) and heck, you might be too.
11. Runners have great legs! So if you join a running team, you will have lots of legs to admire. Please admire ALL the legs to avoid being sexist.
12. Running teams are the best way to meet a date-able special somebody! Before you even learn their name, you’ll already know that he/she is active, healthy, willing to try new things, compassionate, and fun. And that he/she has great legs.
Next Wednesday, January 9th, Team Vegan will be having dinner at All About Herbs the new (secret) restaurant near Union Square.
*Café Paris at 704 Post Street (All About Herbs takes over Café Paris in the evenings)
*6:00
*Bring cash to pay for your meal, apps are around $6 and entrees are $7 to $12
*You MUST RSVP. The restaurant will only hold 15 people. If you don’t RSVP you may have to give up your seat to someone who did reserve a spot!
Marathon Matt will be the quest of honor. If you’re thinking of joining Team Vegan but you have some questions, this is your chance to meet Matt and ask him anything you want. Anything within reason, of course.
*Do you want to train for the 10k or the Half Marathon distance? (6 miles or 13.1 miles)
*What if you need to miss a week or two of training?
*Have your knees bothered you in the past?
*Is Marathon Matt single? (not within reason!)
*Are you a new runner and hesitant about running 6 or 13 miles in 12 weeks?
*What do you eat during training?
*Will you meet somebody fabulous while running? (within reason, but probably impossible to answer)
*What do you wear for training in winter weather?
*Is Jack Norris single? (no.)
*What does a typical training week look like—how much of a time commitment do you need to make?
*What are Marathon Matt’s qualifications for coaching? (perfectly within reason)
Etc. I’ll be there on behalf of Vegan Outreach, and I’ve also done a 12-week training with Marathon Matt so I can share my experience. When I joined his team last summer I was so not a runner, but he got me over the finish line!
Please RSVP to me privately.
Thanks!
